If you are travelling to Newcastle, you can’t go past Huntington Estate without stopping in, and you could always stop and sample some goats cheese at Leaning Oak If you are travelling back to Sydney, why not take the time to call in to Mongrel Wines, and share a little food in the tasting room to enhance your experience, or check out Charnwood Estate in Mudgee, who is a small player kicking big goals with its Shiraz and Merlot. As small and boutique as wineries come, Charnwood demanded everyone’s attention when its 2009 Charlie’s Row Merlot won against some higher profile wineries in the 2011 Winewise Championship.
